Emerald Bay Taxi & Shuttle Service
By Annette Langenstein, Staff Writer

There’s a new taxi and shuttle service and town, and it’s owned by David & Starr Hanna, who moved here from the Phoenix area because of our beautiful weather!

“We moved here last August because the hot weather in Phoenix was making me very sick,” Starr explained. “I have lupus, and we had vacationed on the southern Oregon coast previously, and fell in love with the area. So instead of retiring here, when decided to make the move now!”

The Hannas tossed around a few ideas on what kind of business they would like to get into when they moved here, first considering having a food truck or restaurant. But they found themselves busy ferrying their 15 year old daughter, Emerald, around to her many activities, and it dawned on them to just start a taxi service, named, of course, after their own child.  And on September 1 of 2017, they launched their new business!

Starr and David Hanna of Emerald Bay Taxi and Shuttle Service.

Currently Emerald Bay Taxi & Shuttle Service has one van which seats eight, and David is the sole driver. “We’re hoping that as we grow our business, we can add more vehicles and drivers,” said David. “But we cover Coos Bay, North Bend, Coquille, Bandon, Lakeside…we’ll take customers to the airport in Eugene…we pretty much go wherever people want us to.”

I asked the Hannas what makes their taxi and shuttle service stand out from the other two that are currently in the area.

“I think that the fact that we’re so customer service-oriented sets us apart,” David replied. “When we say we’ll be someplace to pick a person up, then we WILL be there, and on time!”

“We hope to really become a part of this community,” Starr added.  “As we grow we’d like to be involved in school fundraisers, etc.  Our daughter is active in the Naval Sea Cadets, cheer team, you name it, and we want to give back to this community that’s welcomed us.”

Since making the move here form Arizona, the Hannas have come to appreciate our community.

“I absolutely love it here,” said Starr. “You really can’t beat the weather; even summer isn’t too hot.”

“We’ve met so many nice people,” David added. “And we are enjoying the fact that people are polite here; nobody is in a huge rush like in the city, it’s much more relaxed. But we have a wide range of customers, from picking up elderly folks in an assisted-living facility, to taking people to and from work, shopping, or doctor’s appointments.” “Business has remained pretty consistent since we opened,” Starr said.

I asked the Hannas why they decided to advertise their taxi company in the South Coast Shopper.

“Because you find the Shopper everywhere!” David replied. “It gives us more coverage and gets our name out there a lot quicker to people, and in multiple areas.”

If you’re in need of taxi or shuttle service, give Emerald Bay Taxi & Shuttle Service a call at 541-217-9297.  They’re open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with airport shuttle available.

“We look forward to getting this business launched and helping the community in the future,” said David. “We want to really be able to meet the needs of the people who live here.”
