Hidden Treasures
By Annette Langenstein, Staff Writer

Saundra Lynch and her husband Robert have just opened Hidden Treasures, a new store that caters to those shoppers in need of both new and used items. Located 785 Virginia Avenue in North Bend, the Lynch’s establishment is open Monday through Saturday from 10 am to 6 pm.

I spoke with Saundra about her new enterprise and what can found within its walls. “Well, we have just a lot of all kinds of things,” Saundra replied. “Customers will find new and used stuff, of course, but what sets us apart from other thrift-type stores is that we also carry furniture, antiques, clothing, tools, knives, statues, collectibles…you name it!”

This is a new location for Hidden Treasures in North Bend. “We used to be in Coquille for about a year and a half, then we decided to move here, and on April 28 we opened our doors on Virginia Avenue,” said Saundra.

I asked Saundra what prompted her to open a store of this type. “We’re actually from Keene, New Hampshire,” she replied.  “About 15 years ago we had a space in an antique stop where we paid rent to sell our products. Eventually we went out on our own, and wound up owning a large flea market in Keene.  When we moved here we started over here on the coast. I have family here and we made the move across the country because the New Hampshire winters were just too much!”

“We keep our prices low so people can afford to shop here,” Saundra continued. “We’ve been in the predicament where we didn’t have any money, and we know what that’s like. But at the same time, we want your readers to know that the items we carry are really nice!”

Hidden Treasures’ customers come from all walks of life. “Everybody comes in here, really,” said Saundra.  “I would say we sell more clothing and tools than anything else, but we’ve got such a variety that people can always find something to buy! The best part about my job is talking with the customers and meeting people.

I asked Saundra if their store carries any items not usually found in thrift stores. “Yes,” she replied, “We actually have a lot of indoor/outdoor décor like garden statues that are hard to find in this area.”

Eventually the Lynches want to expand the store into a larger establishment where they can do more to help the needy in this area. “We want to become very big because we like to help people a lot,” said Saundra. “The other day a lady from Coquille came in here, and her house had recently burned down.  We gave her a lot of stuff that she couldn’t afford to buy someplace else.”

You’ll see an advertisement for Hidden Treasures in the South Coast Shopper because “You can find the Shopper everywhere,” said Saundra. “I’ve been reading it for many years, and it’s just a good paper.  I think a lot of people read it!”
