Humboldt Motorsports

I spoke with Roger Kirkpatrick, owner of Humboldt Motorsports, which will soon be offering automotive customizing, motorcycle repair, automotive parts and accessories. And it’s all going to be located at 72343 Hwy. 101 in the city of Lakeside.

Roger has a long history of working on vehicles, having started out in his dad’s automotive shop while he was still in high school in Garberville, California. Both his parents passed away within a year of each other, and Roger immersed himself in his education, both at the University of Arizona and at the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute, later joining the Honda Plano racing team as a mechanic.

Humboldt Motorsports, originally from Eureka, CA is expanding their atv andmotorcycle service, repair and custom work to Lakeside, OR.

Back on Humboldt County, Roger worked as a serviceman for five years, earning certifications from Honda and Yamaha, then went on to help establish Eureka Motorsports Center, where he served as general manager. In 2008 he opened Humboldt Motorsports, which boasts 120,000 square feet on 7.5 acres in Eureka. “I’ve been on the Discovery Channel, CBS Sports, and we’re currently on the cover of Dirt Wheels magazine, which has a circulation of 15 million,” said Roger. “I’ve worked for the best race teams in the world.”

So how did Lakeside get lucky enough to snag this big company? “We came up here because I’ve had a customer base from Coos and Douglas counties coming down to my shop for the last seven years,” replied Roger. “We’re not even open yet, and we’ve got over 70 custom build jobs scheduled. I’ve had people asking for my autograph at the gas station in Lakeside!”

Humboldt Motorsports currently has five employees, with certified technicians for Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, KTM, Polaris and Honda generators. They’ll provide parts and service for your motorcycle, ATV, or side-by-side. “We’re going to have the Nitro Circus head mechanics working at our shop in Lakeside,” said Roger.

I asked Roger why he chose the South Coast Shopper to spread the word about his new shop. “I‘m just an average guy, and I felt like it was a good means of advertising and getting involved in the community,” said Roger. “There’s a lot of really good people here that have helped me out. People from the South Coast have been driving three and a half hours to see me in California; now we can provide service right here for them. I’m able to bring in a parts and buying power that nobody else here can offer. That’s how I can give such god discounts.”

March 15, 2016 marks the day when the Lakeside Humboldt Motorsports will be opening. “Later this summer we’ll have a grand opening,” said Roger, “with exciting things for the community like fleet discounts for logging and rental companies. We’re going to be bringing in very skilled mechanics, and we’re open to any suggestions from the community.”

So what does Roger and Humboldt Motorsports see for the future? “I see lots of expansion and helping out the community; working with local dealers and rental networks to better serve our customers.”
