Oceanside RV Resort
By Annette Langenstein, Staff Writer

Jon Nice is the manager of Oceanside RV Resort, a neat-as-a pin RV park located at 90281 Cape Arago Highway, just 1.3 miles from Charleston. He and his wife Gloria hail from Ohio, where they moved from in August of 2014.  “It’s wonderful here...we love it,” said Jon.  “This is such a beautiful place!"

I asked Jon what has changed at this long-standing RV park. “About a year ago, Highway West Vacations, who have resorts in Utah, Washington, Oregon and California, bought this place. For years the park had catered to permanent mobile home residents” said Jon. "The permanent residents had their trailers at the entrance to the park, and campers would just drive by, not knowing there were really nice spaces available down by the beach."

So although Oceanside RV Resort used to be full of permanent residents, "that is not what Highway West wants,” said Jon. “From November through April we do a month-to-month rental, but they have to meet our standards, sign a contract, the RVs have to be 10 years old or newer, and at the end of the month if we’re not satisfied with them, they can’t stay any longer. Summer rentals are strictly by reservation. We get a lot of local people renting our cottages; those that just want to get away for the weekend, or they own an RV but they don’t want to get it ready.”

Speaking of cottages, Oceanside RV Resort has six brand new pet-friendly cottages available for rent. Jon said, “a lot of people will bring their RV and camp in it, and others in their group will rent a cottage. We’re taking reservations a year ahead. July and August of this year are already full.”

“The Highway West philosophy is that they cater to the average family that loves to camp, but they want to give them the amenities of a resort – it’s glamping," continued Jon. "Their main goal is for every park they own to be the same, with the same rules. They all have showers, toilets, laundry facilities, a store, local wines, jellies, etc. The cottages are all decorated with local items. Here at Oceanside RV Resort, on February 21 the campers will be treated to our annual wine and seafood festival, complete with a raffle and gift basket."

All 73 trailer sites have full hookups with water, sewer, electric, cable TV, and a brand new WiFi system, all included in the price of a space rental. For those nostalgia buffs, there's a remodeled vintage Airstream trailer (with a second one on the way) available for rent. Want to enjoy your freshly-caught crab? Then use the crab cleaning station complete with propane and a crab pot. "It's been really popular with the campers," said Jon.

Don't feel like cooking? In April they'll be opening their food wagon/crab shack which will feature chowder, crab, fish and chips, and all those coastal goodies.  And you know the food will be awesome because it will be prepared by a graduate of the Oregon Coast Culinary School!

I asked Jon what he wanted Shopper readers to know about the resort. "I want people to know this place has been totally renovated. It's open year-round and anytime anybody wants to just see a cottage or the camp, they're welcome to come out!"

So if you're looking to get away for a week or a weekend, whether you have an RV or not, give Oceanside RV Resort a call at 541-888-2598. "We’re still getting the word out that this park has been transformed from what it once was," finished Jon. "Once people stay here they say, ‘put me down for another visit!’”
