Larry Donnelly, the new
General Manager of Coos Bay Red Lion Hotel, located at 1313 N. Bayshore
Drive, arrived following a brief tenure at the Shilo Inn in Seaside,
Oregon. Larry will tell you that he came from two places, the Shilo Inn
at Seaside, while maintaining a residence in Longview Washington.
Although Larry has only
lived in the bay area a short time, he has already formulated a
positive opinion of the community. “It’s a pleasant little
town with great potential for growth. I’ve managed other
properties on the Oregon Coast…years ago I ran the Howard
Johnson in Waldport. I also managed the Holiday Inn Express at Ocean
Shores in Washington. I love coastal properties; I think they have a
unique flavor. The smaller communities afford me the chance to get to
know people more readily than bigger cities”.
Larry Donnelly has been the manager of the Red Lion Hotel since March 23 of 2015.
Red Lion is pet-friendly with 144 guest rooms, a fitness
center, seasonal pool and hot tub, Wi-Fi, free airport shuttle, and
bike rentals. They also offering full-service catering to complement
their multi-use meeting and banquet facilities, which are perfect for
any function. Whether it be a wedding, holiday party or training,
Larry says their staff will ensure your next event will be a success.
Their restaurant, Brickstone’s, is open for guests and the public
for both breakfast and dinner.
Under the leadership of Oscar Sermeno,
Brickstone’s has also enhanced their staff with the addition of
several new line cooks and wait staff. “They’re doing a
fantastic job,” says Larry. “I have been eating here nearly
every day since my arrival and can attest to the quality of our food.
We offer an Early Bird Special from 5-6:30pm and our regular menu runs
the gauntlet from burgers and fries to succulent steaks, salads and
Many changes have been occurring at the Coos Bay location. “We just had
a successful Mother’s Day Brunch and the Valentines Dinner Special was
a hit,” says Larry. “We hope to be doing more events in the near
future. We recently kicked-off our Prime Rib Special on Saturday nights
at the restaurant. My staff and I have also considered having more
community-involved activities like BBQs, and Wine Tasting, and would
love to include the local breweries, wineries and distilleries.”
asked why he chose local advertising, Larry replied, “I’m finding that
a lot of local people don’t realize that our restaurant is open. We
felt advertising in the Shopper was a good way in which to get the word
out. We also felt the Shopper allowed us to tap into something local
that reflects the flavor of many within the community. I felt our Prime
Rib Special was extremely successful, following our advertising in your
Larry has big plans for the hotel to have a stronger
presence in our community. “Recently, we made contributions to the
Oregon Coast Community Action. As a retired Navy veteran, I stopped in
at the Veterans Center in North Bend, where we may be forming a
partnership with them in order to provide employment to local veterans.
We are also looking to reconnect with many of the service groups that
previously utilized the Red Lion for their weekly meetings”.
