Volunteers will be welcomed at Noble Creek Hatchery, 93638 Green Acres Way, in November to help spawn Salmon that are returning to the Hatchery. Even children can help. We advise volunteers to bring rubber boots. We also have chest waders available for anyone willing to get into the raceway to net fish to be spawned. Over a half million baby Salmon will be released next May as a result of this project & about 500 big adult Salmon will run through the Hatchery.
The Volunteers of Coos River STEP Association have been operating Noble Creek Hatchery for over thirty-five years. We have spawned brood-stock and raised millions of Chinook Salmon for release into Isthmus Slough. These fish spend 2 – 5 years in the ocean before returning to the Coos River and help provide one of the best Salmon fisheries on the Oregon Coast.
Spawning is planned for Tuesdays and one Monday. All spawning days begin at 9:00 AM and last until about noon. November dates are Nov. 4th, Nov. 10th, Nov. 18th and Nov. 25th. We invite the public to come to the Hatchery for any of the days that fit your schedule. Take the Green Acres turn off at mile marker 3.2 on Highway 42, half way between Coos Bay and Coquille. Noble Creek Hatchery is 1.1 miles on the right side of the road.
