Explore the Mysteries of the Deep Sea at North Bend Public Library & SWOCC Event

NORTH BEND, OR – Take a plunge into the unknown! On Thursday, May 1 from 6:00 to 8:30 PM, the North Bend Public Library and Southwestern Oregon Community College (SWOCC) invite you on an unforgettable deep-sea adventure.

Join Professor Amy Burgess, a marine biology expert from SWOCC, as she unravels the secrets of Earth’s most mysterious ecosystem, the deep sea. Following her talk, participants will be immersed in the deep sea in Into the Deep, a breathtaking film experience inside SWOCC’s portable planetarium.

This unique presentation combines marine biology, underwater geology, and deep-sea exploration history, bringing to life creatures rarely seen by human eyes. Get up close with bioluminescent frogfish, jellyfish, vampire squid, viperfish, pelican eels, and the elusive fangtooth. Participants will also relive the historic Trieste dive to the Challenger Deep, the deepest known point of the ocean.

About the Speaker: Professor Amy Burgess specializes in aquatic ecosystems, from river trout interactions to deep-sea methane seep populations. With research spanning larval crab food webs to deep-sea connectivity, she brings a wealth of knowledge and a passion for the ocean’s hidden wonders.

Don’t miss this one-of-a-kind journey into the abyss! This event is free and open to the public.
