The Coos History Museum invites you to Sailing by the Stars, a fun and immersive program for all ages that explores the history of nautical navigation. Ever wondered how ancient mariners crossed vast oceans without GPS? Join us at the Coos History Museum for Sailing by the Stars, a one-hour hands-on class where you’ll discover the secrets of traditional navigation. Learn how explorers used the stars, wind, and waves to chart their course, try your hand at celestial navigation using real sextants, get hands-on with knot tying, map reading, and uncover the stories and science behind navigating the world long before modern technology.

Whether you’re a curious learner, a sea lover, or just want to try something new, this unique experience will leave you inspired by the ingenuity of the past. Join us on Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 12 - 1 PM at the Coos History Museum for Sailing by the Stars.
