James Vance Hankins

James (Jim) Vance Hankins was born in South Gate, California to Noble and Violet Hankins in 1947. The Hankins Family soon moved to Coos Bay. Jim graduated from Marshfield Senior High school Class of 1956. He became a ceramic tile contractor demonstrating high skills and his artisitic abilities, while enjoying the people that he dealt with while helping them building new homes and remodeling. In 1966 he began a long career as a long shoreman, again enjoying the people and varied places and skills associated with the work. He specialized in crane operation, a skill that demanded great concentration and depth peception. He was always ready to drop everything and rush to tie up ships as he saw them coming up the bay. He described long shoring as “The Best Job Ever”. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, rock hounding, beach combing, camping, and traveling - especially cruising.

Jim was predeceased by his parents and two brothers Bob and Ron.

Jim is survived by his wife Elizabeth; Children: Terri Mallison and husband Tom, Don Hankins, Barbara Braun, Mike Hankins and wife Ambyr and son-in-law Chris Braun. Eight grandchildren and one great grandson; Jay and wife Renee, KT, Austin, Fillian, Alex, Eliza, Cassie, Sam and great grandson Graham.
