Lyle Wayne Richter was born to Toney Wayne and Eva May Richter on August 1, 1954, and passed away on December 11, 2025. The youngest of four children—by just eight minutes—Lyle grew up alongside his older brother Lonney, sister Janice, and twin brother Mike in Hauser, north of North Bend. Their neighborhood was a wonderful place to grow up, filled with friends and endless adventures once the chores were done.
Lyle graduated from North Bend High School in 1972. Afterward, he worked at International Paper and Coos Head mills before finding his calling in the fishing industry. He spent many years at Point Adam in Charleston and then joined the Gunnary’s, shrimping and dragging for over two decades.
At 21, Lyle joined the Sunday pool league, playing for Ron’s Tap & Bottle for 15 years and Jessie at the Silver Dollar for 25 years. It was at Ron’s where he met Tyree, whom he married a few years later. Together, they had a son, Timothy Wayne Richter. Though their marriage ended after six years, Lyle’s journey continued. He later met Laura May and her daughter Jessica, and together they welcomed a baby girl, Alysia, who now has two sons of her own, Jacob and Troy.
Lyle’s passions were many. He loved fishing—whether for trout, bass, salmon, or stripers—and found peace on the water. He was a devoted sports fan, cheering for the Ducks and Beavers, and he was an avid reader, always with a new book in hand. He introduced his family to “The Wheel of Time” series, a legacy passed to his brother Mike, and then down to his grandson Jacob and, hopefully, to Troy.
Above all, Lyle was a loving and devoted father. He cherished his children and grandchildren, always offering support, wisdom, and unconditional love. His kindness and generosity extended beyond his family—Lyle was a great friend to many, known for his easy laughter, willingness to lend a hand, and genuine care for others. As a brother, he was loyal and steadfast, sharing a special bond with his siblings, especially his twin, Mike.
He is survived by his son Timothy Richter of Coquille, daughters Jessica Georgette of Los Angeles and Alysia Richter of Coos Bay, as well as his grandsons—Timothy’s son Kayel, and Alysia’s sons Jacob and Troy. He also leaves behind his twin brother, Michael Richter of Coos Bay, many nieces and nephews on the Richter side—Jackie, John, Joe, Julie, and Jason Wilson—as well as Laura’s sister Suzanne, her husband Gene and their children, Laura and Suzanne’s mother Sharon, and his girlfriend Lupe.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Toney and Eva May; his brother Lonney; his sister Janice; and Laura May. May they all rest in peace.
A celebration of Lyle’s life will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Kaffe 101, 171 S Broadway in Coos Bay. All are welcome to bring a potluck dish and share memories.
Lyle, you are loved always. Happy fishing—and save some for the rest of us.
