On February 29th, 1896 the Coquille River Lighthouse was first lit and served for years welcoming sailors, visitors, immigrants, and industry shipping. It continues to welcome tourists and visitors worldwide.
February 29th 1896 was a "Leap Day". Since we are not in a Leap Year in 2026 we will be celebrating the Lighthouse birthday on March 1st 2026. March 1st 1896 it snowed in Bandon! We will hope that does not repeat itself.
Please join the Keeper's Association for a birthday party on Sunday, March 1st from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at the Bandon Fisheries Warehouse. Cake, Snacks, Hot Drinks, No Host Bar, old Photos, Commemorative T-Shirt, Gear & Art will all be available.
