Get ready for an evening of lively rhythms, joyful melodies, and irresistible dance tunes as the Coast Klezmer Band performs a free concert at the North Bend Public Library on Friday, December 5 at 7:00 PM.
Klezmer music, rooted in the Jewish communities of Eastern Europe, blends centuries-old traditions with a timeless, toe-tapping energy. Its recent revival over the past 50 years speaks to the music’s universal appeal and infectious spirit.
The Coast Klezmer Band brings this vibrant genre to life with rollicking Jewish dance tunes from Poland, Russia, Greece, and Israel. The ensemble features Coos Bay musicians Sharon Rogers (accordion, vocals), Eileen Schaefers (clarinet), Florence violinist Robbie Dee Smith, and drummer and Cantor Mark Levy, a native Yiddish speaker. To make the evening even more interactive, local dance instructors will guide audience members through traditional Klezmer dances. This concert takes place just before Chanukkah and is free and open to the public.
This event is sponsored through a generous grant from the Coos County Cultural Commission.
